Miners in the Canadian province of Quebec may face power shortages

The Canadian state-owned company Hydro-Quebec, which is responsible for the production and transportation of energy, called on the local regulator to limit miners' access to electricity.

Your request from Hydro-Quebec representativesjustified by the expectation of increased energy demand. According to the company, demand from “more traditional” consumers will grow by 14% over the next 10 years. For miners, 270 MW of capacity has been allocated, which can cover the needs of ordinary users. Therefore, Hydro-Quebec calls on the local energy regulator Regie de l’energie to suspend, or at least limit the activities of miners in the province.

Hydro-Quebec emphasized that if energy forminers will not be directed to ordinary consumers, this could “increase pressure on current infrastructure.” So far, the regulator has not made a decision to suspend mining activities, nor has it commented on the company’s request.

Note that the mining industry has facedwith unprecedented difficulties - the fall of the cryptocurrency market has significantly reduced the income of cryptocurrency mining companies. In addition, the global energy crisis is increasingly affecting electricity prices. For example, miners in Iran recently reported significant increases in energy prices, and the government of Moldova completely banned mining activities in the country.
