Loan instead of work: scammers arrange instant loans for Ukrainians

Ukrainians run the risk of falling into the clutches of scammers by posting job search ads on websites.

Onlinea new type of scam is spreading using job search sites where job seekers post their ads. Instead of the desired work, Ukrainians receive debts on loans.

Having chosen a victim, the scammers contact her throughViber or WhatsApp and offer a vacancy with favorable working conditions. After the online interview, scammers leave the job seeker on hold for several days. Then they announce the good news of being accepted into the company. For the alleged official registration, they ask to send a package of documents:

• the passport;
• work book;
• driver's license;
• selfie with unfolded passport.

Such a package of documents is necessary for obtaining "instant loans online", which is what the swindlers use.

As a result, instead of working, Ukrainians receive huge amounts of debt to financial institutions.

Such fraud existed before, but during the period of quarantine and the massive transition to remote work, the scheme received new opportunities and the number of its victims is growing.
