Lego plans to launch its own metaverse

Danish giant Lego has unveiled plans to create a virtual world with the support of Epic Games, one of the influential companies in the gaming industry, creator of the online game Fortnite.

Lego has promised that its users will be able to create sets in the metaverse.

"We know very well how to loadcustomers into the Lego universe in their stores. We are working very hard to create a digitally immersive experience of the Lego brand,” said Lego CEO Niels Christiansen.

Epic Games CEO TimSweeney said the Lego brand is "perfectly aligned with Epic's vision for the metaverse." The Lego Metaverse will be built using Epic Games' Unreal Engine, which powers many popular video games.

Back in 2021, Lego invested $2 billion in Epic Games to develop the metaverse. The company previously announced possible cooperation with this developer.

Currently, some of the most popular metaverses are Decentraland (300,000 monthly users), The Sandbox (30,000 users) and Cryptovoxels (less than 25,000 users).

In July, Epic Games announced that it would not follow the example of Steam and Mojang and would not ban games that support NFTs and blockchain on its site.
