JPMorgan: Older Investors Prefer Gold, Older Investors Bitcoin

Investor behavior during the pandemic varies significantly depending on thetheir age category,data from JPMorgan Chase show.

In general, investors are looking for alternatives to traditionalinvestments, but if older investors prefer investing in gold, then younger investors prefer to invest in bitcoins, the bank strategists, led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglu, wrote in a recent review in which they analyzed investment flows. Millennials are actively buying stocks, especially in tech companies, while older investors are selling stocks, experts said.

“Older investors continued to channel their funds into bond funds, which purchases remained strong in June and July,” the survey said.

The increase in retail investor activity this year was reflected in a 46% jump in global equity markets fromMarch lows, a sharp increase in demand for gold-backed exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and the recent rally in cryptocurrencies.At the same time, the presence of non-professional investors is well felt in the markets of many other assets.

Over the past five months there has beenSignificant inflows into both gold and bitcoin-backed ETFs as both older and younger investors seek exposure to “alternative currencies” amid a weakening dollar, a JPMorgan report noted. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index is down 1.7% year to date, and a growing number of experts expect the US currency to continue to weaken.
