Istanbul increases Ethereum blockchain scalability 2,000 times

Blockchain scaling startup StarkWare says Ethereum has enormous potential toscaling up after its recent Istanbul update.

According to StarkWare measurements, scale of operationsEthereum at the first level of the blockchain can be increased 2,000 times. The renewed network is capable of processing 9,000 transactions per second while spending 75 units of gas per transaction, whereas before that the restriction was 2,000 transactions while spending 300 units of gas per transaction.

Istanbul update on Ethereum blockchain waslaunched in December. It included six Ethereum Improvement Suggestions (EIP), aimed primarily at changes in gas consumption for certain types of operations.

StarkWare developing solutions based onzero-disclosure evidence technology (zk-STARKs) that helps scale Ethereum by adding a second tier for transactions. In addition to mitigating scalability issues, StarkWare will also help increase transaction privacy.

In the near future, the company intends to launch a core network, which third-party projects will be able to use to scale its services.
