In total, more than 1,000 mining licenses have been issued in Iran, and there are also many underground mining farms due to the extremely low cost of electricity.

As reported by Tehran Times with referenceIranian Energy Minister Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said the country's energy consumption reached 62,500 MW last week. In the near future, the figure will reach 63,000 MW, and there is not enough generation in Iran. The authorities decided to stop supplying electricity to miners to avoid rolling blackouts.

Iranian authorities tried to fight the undergroundmining. In April, it was decided to significantly increase the punishment for unlicensed mining. However, this did not greatly affect the popularity of this type of activity.
