In the coming months, the US will prepare a plan for the launch of digital currency

The Digital Dollar Project, which advocates for the digitalization of U.S. currency, announced Thursdayon forming his first advisoryproject. The initiative was sponsored by Christopher Giancarlo, the former chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), in collaboration with the consulting firm Accenture.

The advisory board included 22 experts fromfinance and payments, including former CFTC Commissioner Sharon Bowen, Payman Policy Director Usman Ahmed, and Chris Brummer, professor of financial technology at Georgetown University. Their task will be to support the preparation of the basis for the issuance of digital currency by the US Central Bank.

The launch of the initiative was announced this January. Within two months, the project intends to submit a white paper, which will reflect the "key elements and competitive offers of the digital dollar."

“The experience of the new advisory group will provide invaluable support in our work to improve the efficiency of the dollar in the global economy, which is increasingly digitizing”- said Giancarlo.

It became known earlier that the US authorities are considering the possibility of creating a digital dollar in response to the coronavirus pandemic, but subsequently they abandoned these plans.

“We had nothing to do with this bill,Giancarlo explained, adding that legislators may have been inspired by the language in their draft.

We often use the phrase “digitaldollar ”, meaning the digital currency of the US central bank. The attention of Congress emphasizes once again the importance of updating the architecture of the dollar so that it matches the digital spirit of the 21st century.
