In Texas, miners reduce power consumption due to high load on the power grid

In recent days, Texas has been experiencingextremely hot weather, placing high strain on the state's power grid. Miners are turning off their power at the request of the local energy regulator.

Monday, June 6, peak consumptionelectricity in the state amounted to 72,386 MW. On Tuesday, the figure was even higher - 72,785 MW. Last year, maximum consumption was recorded on June 23 – then the load was 70,257 MW.

Local Energy Board(ERCOT) emphasized that the increased energy consumption is due to the influx of miners into the state. Therefore, when opening mining centers, a special agreement is concluded in which miners undertake to reduce consumption at the request of the Council, energy suppliers and consultants.

“We lost about 5 bitcoins due tohigh temperatures. We voluntarily turned off the equipment several times. The cost of energy was rising, we were feeding our energy back into the grid,” said Argo CEO Peter Wall.

A Bitdeer representative also noted that the company is turning off equipment. At the same time, the process is automated - miners are switched off when the price of energy reaches a certain level.

Riot Blockchain takes a similar position. The company's commercial director, Chad Harris, emphasized that in case of high load on the network, the center in Winston will turn off equipment and this power will be enough to power 300,000 households. True, only when the center reaches its full capacity of 750 MW.

Earlier, President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency in the United States due to a lack of energy generating capacity, which could negatively affect the activities of local miners.
