“Cryptocurrency mining cases have been identified usinginfected information resources of government organizations. Attackers infect web pages, and mining is performed when they are viewed in a browser, ”said Nikolai Murashov, deputy director of the NCCC.

At the same time, for the extraction of cryptocurrenciesup to 80% of the computing power of the user's computer is used, and in the case of mining on company servers, their performance is noticeably reduced, which can lead to losses for the business.

“There have recently been two cases in the Russian Federation of criminal prosecution of persons who used seized computers to mine cryptocurrencies,” Murashov said.

We are talking about a resident of the Mound, who gathered a wholea network of infected computers in different regions of Russia, as well as an employee of Rostovvodokanal, who infected the organization’s website with a hidden mining program.

In addition, in November it was reported that a miner fromPrimorye, through whose fault 7 residential apartments in the city of Artyom burned down, will appear before the court. The fire destroyed 7 apartments in the amount of 30 million rubles, as well as common house property in the amount of 23 million rubles.
