Hyundai began developing hydrogen-powered construction equipment

South Korean companies Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Construction Equipment have teamed up to develop hydrogen-fueled construction vehicles.

Together with the Research Institute of Construction Equipment, partners plan to create a forklift and an excavator powered by hydrogen in the next two years.

Then the developed prototypes will pass a series of tests before they appear on the commercial market by 2023.

Hyundai Motor will develop fuel cell and battery systems for construction vehicles, as well asperformance testing and quality control of construction equipment.

HCE will be responsible for designing new loaders and excavators, as well as conducting comprehensive evaluations of new models.

It is expected that partners will be the first in the world to engage in the conversion of this technology segment to hydrogen fuel.

Previously, Hyundai also announced plans to develop a new tractor and coastal ships powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
