Huawei will ditch Android in 2021, replacing it with its own Harmony OS

Huawei Technologies will start installing its own Harmony operating system instead of Android on all its smartphones next year, so as not to depend on American technologies.

The world's largest manufacturer on Thursdaysmartphones have officially opened access to the latest version of Harmony OS to developers around the world to accelerate the development of the app ecosystem. In this way, the company wants to maintain the competitiveness of its products amid pressure from the United States.

Huawei is forced to take such drastic measures because withoutsupport from Google Mobile Services andproblems with the supply of chips, the company is on the brink of survival and needs to reorganize some of its activities. However, after the transition to the new OS, the company will need to work hard to convince developers to switch to Harmony.

The presented distributed operating system can be used not only for smartphones, but also for wearable devices, smart speakers and car systems.

We also previously reported that Google plans to turn mobile devices into a network of mini seismographs.
