Helium is considering switching to Solana

Developers of the decentralized networkHelium said they are considering moving to one of the leading smart contract platforms, Solana, which is widely used for dApps, DeFi and NFTs.

According to the developers' post on Github,One of the main advantages of this solution is the speed and stability of Solana, which will allow Helium to serve more users. Additionally, Solana has a long-established community, scale, and composable infrastructure that are key to Helium and its users.

The proposal states that Helium will movetheir tokens such as IOT, DC, MOBILE and HNT from their blockchain in Solana. Helium will also rely on oracles or third-party data sources that are not connected to the blockchain to manage the network infrastructure and accounting function for data transfers during the transition.

“In this way, the Helium community will receivea thriving ecosystem of thousands of developers around the world. They are working on applications that can only be implemented on Solana due to its fast and cheap transactions,” the message says.

According to the developers, when they justwere launching their own network, there were only a few tier 1 platforms and the industry was younger, so it made much more sense to create their own blockchain instead of joining young networks. But now that many cryptocurrency ecosystems are older and better, it makes more sense to use their developments to improve your own network.

The Helium decentralized network offerstokens to its users as a reward for sharing their Internet traffic with the rest of the network community. The network uses a Proof-of-Coverage (PoC) algorithm to verify the location of access points and actual coverage. At the beginning of the year, Helium raised $200 million to expand its team and create new products.
