Head of Xbox expresses optimism for the metaverse

Xbox CEO Phil Spencer told Bloomberg Technology that gamers onhave been circulating in the metaverses for the past 30 years.

Most games today, from World of Warcraft and Roblox to racing sims, offer a 3D, social world, he says.

“It doesn’t surprise me at all that gamers don’tunderstand the essence of the metaverses. After all, we already have our own avatar, and we can go to the common world and communicate with people from anywhere by voice, ”said the Xbox top manager.

Spencer expressed interest in the development of virtual worlds, but called for caution in the Play-to-Earn segment due to speculation in the NFT market.

Let us recall that in January, Microsoft, which owns Xbox, announced the purchase of video game developer and publisher Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion.

The company said the acquisition "will provide the building blocks to create a metaverse." The deal is planned to be closed by June 30, 2023.

Previously, billionaire Mark Cuban called the "stupid" idea of acquiring land, mansions and other real estate in virtual worlds.

In August, Trend Micro experts said that the development of metaverses will lead to the spread of traditional cyber threats in them and the emergence of new ones.
