The technical support of the Bitrue cryptocurrency exchange announced a hacker attack, during which the attackers managed to withdraw crypto assets totaling about $23 million.

Friday, April 14, security expertsBitrue discovered a vulnerability in one of the trading platform's hot wallets. Hackers were able to appropriate crypto assets ETH, QNT, GALA, SHIB, HOT and MATIC. Exchange employees assured that the hacked hot wallet contained less than 5% of all platform funds. The rest of the wallets remain safe and have not been compromised.

It is not yet known whether this attack was carried outdue to technical errors or using social engineering techniques. Bitrue specialists are investigating the situation and conducting additional security checks. Bitrue is suspending all withdrawals until April 18, 2023.
All identified users affectedfrom hacking, will receive compensation for losses in full, the management of the exchange promised. Recall that in 2019, the Bitrue platform was already hacked. At that time, hackers were able to steal 9.3 million XRP and 2.5 million ADA.
According to PeckShield analysts, in March, attackers stole $211.5 million worth of cryptocurrencies and $10.9 million worth of NFTs, and in just the first months since the beginning of the year, about $255.8 million was stolen.
