Hackers gained access to personal data of Hotbit crypto exchange clients

The trading platform suspended operations after a hacking attempt. According to preliminary estimates, recoverysystems after the attack will take up to two weeks.

Hotbit cryptocurrency exchange suspended workafter a hacking attempt. The site's website says that the attackers carried out a large-scale cyberattack in order to gain access to the wallets of the exchange, but they failed.

The attacks on the service began at 20:00 Moscow time on April 29.After the attackers were unable to gain access to the exchange's funds, they deleted the database of its users. Hotbit said the data will be restored thanks to backups.

Exchange representatives warned usersthat their personal data (phone number, email, asset information) could have been stolen. The message emphasizes that user passwords, thanks to the encryption system, were not affected by the leak, but they should still be changed, especially for those who use the same password as on Hotbit on other sites.

At the same time, the site itself plans to completely rebuild the server architecture. According to preliminary estimates, the restoration of Hotbit will take from 7 to 14 days.

Previously on one of the English-language darknet forumsa database was put up for sale purportedly containing information about Paxful users and employees. However, the service representative denied the fact of the hack and noted that the personal data of the clients had not been compromised in any way.
