Hackers attacked the Bitcoin.org resource

A Popular Bitcoin Information Resource Has Been Hit By A Major Attack Aimed At Preventingaccess and subsequent redemption in cryptocurrency.

As reported by the Bitcoin operator.org under the nickname Cobra, the site was under an "absolutely massive DDoS attack." The attackers promised not to stop their actions until they receive the ransom in Bitcoin. The Bitcoin.org domain was registered on August 18, 2008, even before the launch of the Bitcoin network, allegedly by the creator of the cryptocurrency Satoshi Nakamoto.

“I don’t think I was insulted like that for some time.Ungrateful bastard, wrote Cobra. - In the past, it was possible to wage a sane fight against DDoS attacks. Now they can just crash the site at will. There is no more “fight”. They can crash the site and keep it that way until they leave you alone. "

Cobra also said that he would never resort tousing services such as Cloudflare, which help protect against DDoS attacks by relaying customer requests from the external network to one or more servers that are logically located on the internal network.

In the past, attackers have carried out attacks oncryptocurrency exchanges, including to prevent users from accessing them during sharp market movements, but hardly touched Bitcoin.org, which contains only freely distributed information about bitcoin and has no commercial purpose. A similar attack on Bitcoin.org occurred in December 2020, due to which users temporarily lost the ability to download a cryptocurrency client using one of the main sources. The sites of the Binance, OKEx and Bitfinex exchanges were also attacked at various times. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, for example, argued that competitors were behind this, trying to undermine the exchange's reputation in this way.

Last week, Cobra announced a restrictionaccess to download Bitcoin Core software for visitors from the UK, after Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright won a court victory in the case of rights to a white paper of a cryptocurrency.
