Greenpeace activist created the installation “Satoshi’s Skull” as a symbol of the dangers of Bitcoin mining

Greenpeace's "Satoshi's Skull" installation was intended to demonstrate the environmental dangers of Bitcoin's consensus mechanism, but BTC supporters adopted it as a new symbol.

Benjamin Von Wong andclimate activist group Greenpeace has come together as part of the “Change the Code, Not the Climate” campaign, which aims to call on the crypto community to transform the Bitcoin blockchain consensus mechanism into a proof-of-stake (PoS) model.

To expose the harmful effects of miningBitcoin on climate change, von Wong created a three-meter "Satoshi's Skull" from waste from the electronics industry, wires, printed circuit boards and components. "Satoshi's Skull" is crowned with smoking factory chimneys as a symbol of carbon fuel consumption and air pollution. To top it off, Von Wong used the popular MTC proponents' "red laser eyes" meme to highlight the eye sockets of the skull.

In a conversation with reporters, representativesGreenpeace and Benjamin Von Wong said they were extremely concerned about the pollution and energy issues associated with Bitcoin mining. With their installation, the participants of the action would like to draw public attention to the fact that during the mining of military-technical equipment, more than 30,000 tons of electronic waste are generated annually, and energy consumption is twice as much as that of Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Apple combined.

Over the next few monthsGreenpeace will be showcasing "Satoshi's Skull" on a US tour as part of its Bitcoin climate change campaign. However, Greenpeace's marketing efforts took an unexpected turn when supporters of the world's first-largest cryptocurrency expressed admiration for the artwork, with some even using it as a new meme and avatar on social media.

For example, as the director ofmining company Compass Mining media strategy Will Foxley, who called the artwork "really cool" and changed his Twitter profile picture to an image of Satoshi's skull.

Formerly renowned venture capitalist Tim Draper(Tim Draper) spoke at Paris Blockchain Week ‘2023 (PWD). The speaker ended his speech entitled “Decentralizing Everything” with a song he composed about Bitcoin.
