Specialists from Gazprom Neft and Gazpromneft-Snabzheniya tested blockchain technology and the conceptInternet of things in logistics, during the delivery of pipeline fittings from Veliky Novgorod to the Prirazlomnaya platform in the Pechora Sea, the company’s press service reported.

The essence of the test was as follows:Radio frequency tags (RFID) and satellite positioning sensors (GPS) were installed on the purchased shutoff valves. During transportation, all data on cargo movements and stops received from sensors was recorded in the blockchain.

«GPS sensor made it possible to control movementcargo to the storage base in Murmansk, the speed of its movement, the number and duration of stops along the way. All data received from devices was recorded by a smart contract and reflected in the blockchain. Subsequently, information about warehouse and transport operations - receipt of products to the warehouse, movement to the pier for loading, delivery to the Prirazlomnaya platform in the Pechora Sea - was transmitted according to a similar scheme», — according to a company press release.

Blockchain has ensured an inextricable connection between the physicaldelivery, all accompanying processes and document flow, and also allowed all participants in the process to gain access to reliable information in encrypted form — Representatives of Gazprom Neft came to this conclusion.

The successful implementation of the pilot project confirmedthe possibility of using blockchain technology in supply chain management, the company believes, and now Gazprom Neft is considering the prospects for further use of the potential of blockchain and replication of the experience gained.

“Blockchain in supplies will create an ecosystemfor the interaction of all participants in the process, such as manufacturer, inspector, logistics operator, warehouse and consumer. We see potential in the development and further application of the technology,” said Abdulla Karaev, Director of the Directorate for Procurement and Capital Construction of Gazprom Neft PJSC.
