Gaming company Square Enix invests in crypto startup Zebedee

Japanese video game publisher and developer Square Enix is ​​investing in the Zebedee platform, which gives gaming companies the ability to integrate BTC micropayments into their projects.

Startup Zebedee, specializing in games withusing Bitcoin, raised funds in the amount of $35 million. The funding round was led by Kingsway Capital. It was joined by global merchant bank The Raine Group, as well as video game giant Square Enix, famous for its Final Fantasy franchise.

The Zebedee platform allows game developersembed micropayments in BTC via the Lightning network. Game studios that offer Bitcoin as rewards use Zebedee's proprietary interface (API) to make it easy for players to access the cryptocurrency they've earned.

Previously, the company demonstrated the operation of thistechnology by launching special servers for Valve’s popular online shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, on which players could receive bitcoins for participating in online matches. The average transaction size on the platform is only $0.08.

Let us remember that Square Enix previously sold the rights to the game titles Tomb Rider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain in order to invest money in the development of projects in the field of blockchain and NFT.
