Fraudsters have mastered the theft of bitcoins through crypto machines using a fake QR code

A new method of fraud using crypto ATMs has become known, through which usersbuy cryptocurrencies for fiat money.

Fraudsters use special double-sidedstickers with a QR code on which the address of the purse of criminals is placed. These stickers are placed on the QR code scanner of ATMs. On the side that is shown to users, the words “scan here” are displayed. On the reverse side is a QR code with the address of the criminals bitcoin wallet. Everything is done in such a way that the user thinks that a translucent QR code is just a hint for those who do not know what exactly needs to be applied to the scanner.

Thus, the user shows a QR codeATM scanner to get bitcoins to your address, however, the ATM reads the QR code of scammers. As a result, after payment, bitcoins are sent not to the user's address, but to the address of the attackers.

On the sticker above, the QR code sends bitcoins to the address 1JvHVnEsYsYsPo5SJfYfzVhMRoatmKE6ntS. Only one transaction in the amount of 0.0868 BTC went through it.

It is not possible to decline a transaction that has already been completed.however, it is possible to avoid loss of BTC. To do this, you need to check the scanned address and your own, because after scanning the QR code, the crypto machine shows an alphanumeric string of the wallet to which the cryptocurrency will be received. If you check the cryptocurrency deposit address with each transaction, then the chance of losing funds will be significantly lower.
