UAE national airline teamed up with Swiss startup to develop its own internal information systems. According to Reuters, the Winding Tree decentralized blockchain platform will provide logistical support for the Etihad Airways distribution system.
This step will allow the airline to abandonservices of third-party operators that control flight time, travel routes and baggage tracking. Tristan Thomas, Etihad's head of digital technology and innovation, told Reuters that the services of these companies are often overpriced.

Pedro Anderson, CTO of Winding Tree, said:
We have implemented a number of pilots and new solutions onthe platform. In the end, this should benefit consumers. With the development of innovation, competition is growing, which leads to higher prices for the consumer, said Thomas.
Winding Tree provides real-time information systems for a number of airlines, hotels and travel offices around the world.
In 2017, the company entered into a partnershipan agreement with Lufthansa to create a travel market based on blockchain technology. A few months later, the Russian airline S7 announced that it was using blockchain to issue airline tickets. AirFrance has also integrated its APIs to control its airline management systems.
