Etihad Airways is working on the creation of internal information systems on the blockchain

The UAE's national airline has teamed up with a Swiss startup to develop its owninternal information systems. According to Reuters, Winding Tree's decentralized blockchain platform will provide logistical support for Etihad Airways' distribution system.

This step will allow the airline to abandonservices of third-party operators that control flight time, travel routes and baggage tracking. Tristan Thomas, Etihad's head of digital technology and innovation, told Reuters that the services of these companies are often overpriced.

Pedro Anderson, CTO of Winding Tree, said:

We have implemented a number of pilots and new solutions onplatform. This should ultimately benefit consumers. With the development of innovation, competition increases, which leads to higher prices for consumers, – said Thomas.

Winding Tree provides real-time information systems to a number of airlines, hotels and tourism offices around the world.

In 2017, the company entered into a partnershipagreement with Lufthansa to create a travel market based on blockchain technology. A few months later, Russian airline S7 announced that it was using blockchain to issue airline tickets. AirFrance has also consolidated its APIs to monitor its airline management systems.
