Donald Trump launched a war on social networks

U.S. President Donald Trump proposes to "tightly regulate" or even "shut down" social media platforms, after Twitter flagged his post as "fake."

The president's reaction followed Twitter's decision to flag two of his tweets about possible fraud in the use of mail-in voting in the United States as false information.

The service attached a link to his post inviting readers to "get facts about mail-in ballots."Users are directed to a page that describes Mr. Trump's claims as "unfounded," citing reports from CNN, the Washington Post and others.

Trump said Twitter actions mayregarded as political pressure. Such behavior will cost companies legal claims for defamation posted on their platforms. Currently, Twitter and Facebook are protected under the US Law as “platforms,” not as “publishers.” This protects them from lawsuits in connection with false information posted by users.

Yesterday, the president signed an order to strengthenResponsibility for publishing on the Internet. The order instructs executive bodies and independent decision-making bodies, including the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Trade Commission, to consider introducing new rules for social networks.

Twitter called the order a “reactionary and politicized approach to the law” and said attempts to weaken it would “threaten future online broadcasting.”

Recall that last month the generalTwitter and Square Director Jack Dorsey founded a new foundation called Start Small LLC. The main objective of the fund will be the fight against coronavirus. Dorsey has already donated about 28% of his fortune to these needs.
