Developers continue to introduce MimbleWimble technology in Litecoin

Litecoin and Grin++ developer David Burkett has posted an update on the MimbleWimble integration into Litecoin. HeHe said that a test environment was created and integration with the code base began.

Leading developer of the Litecoin MimbleWimble project, David Burkett, who led the creation of a functional test environment, began to integrate the development into the Litecoin code base.

According to a recent report published on Litecointalk forums, the project to implement the MimbleWimble privacy protocol in Litecoin reached an important milestone - a test stand was created.

“I developed a functional testing environment, which creates valid headers, blocks, and transactions. Now I have several completed continuous block verification tests, ”said Burkett.

He also began integrating his designs with the Litecoin codebase, initially focusing on ConnectBlock, a piece of code that checks blocks before adding them to the chain.

Although Burkett is not yet sure which particular area needs to be further worked on, he stated that his high-level plan provides for further integration of the codebase and “more testing”.

In addition, Burkett published an updatedinformation about his other Grin ++ project, for which the pre-release version v1.0.0 is already ready, which has become “the first non-beta version”. The first implementation of the MimbleWimble privacy protocol was introduced as part of Grin ++ back in January 2019.

MimbleWimble was first introduced in 2016. Blockstream mathematician Andrew Poelstra and Bitcoin Core member Bryan Bishop showed strong interest in the project and its implementation. In particular, Poelstra published the White Paper of the project, which describes the idea and proposes solutions for optimizing the scalability of Bitcoin.

In 2017, scaling technologyMimbleWimble was launched on a test network. However, a year later, the privacy protocol, originally prepared for Bitcoin, was launched in two implementations at once. In January 2018, two different networks were launched - Beam and Grin, each of which offers several different custom protocol assemblies.

Last February, the creators of cryptocurrencyThe Beam announced Litecoin Foundation’s intentions to integrate MimbleWimble technology into Litecoin, and in the fall, developers published two proposals for improving the protocol (LIP-0002 EB and LIP-0003 MW) with the aim of introducing technology for transactions with a high level of confidentiality.
