The Federal Bureau of Investigation claims thatGriffith illegally traveled to North Korea to give a presentation on how to use cryptocurrencies. In addition, he participated in the development of a plan to implement cryptocurrency payments between Sevena and South Korea.
"Virgil Griffith provided North Korea withtechnical information, knowing that it could be used to launder money and evade sanctions imposed by Congress and the President in order to apply maximum pressure on the dangerous North Korean regime,” said Geoffrey Berman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

The charge states that Griffith droveto North Korea in April to speak at a cryptocurrency conference. According to the FBI, he entered the country through China, despite the fact that the US State Department had previously denied him entry into North Korea.
There he gave a presentation entitled“Blockchain and the World,” describing how North Korea can use blockchain technology to its advantage. Moreover, prosecutors claim that he agreed on the text of the presentation with North Korean authorities, who prompted him to talk more about how to use cryptocurrencies to evade sanctions and money laundering.
Griffith has not yet had a chance to respond to the charges brought against him.
