Chinese President considers blockchain development a country's priority

Chinese President Xi Jinping said the country should "take the lead" in developingblockchain innovation.

According to a report by local publication Xinhua.net, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday that the Communist Party should consider blockchain as a core technology to achieve important innovation breakthroughs, and it is the party's responsibility to accelerate its development and adoption. 

Xi made this statement at a meeting with membersCommunist Party, through seminars regularly held by the central committee. This is the first time that the party’s central committee has collectively studied blockchain technology.

Xi emphasized that China already has a strong foundation for technology development, so the country should “take a leading position in the still emerging blockchain industry.”  

According to Xi, China will promote the integration of blockchain technology with the real economy and solve pressing problems in existing banking and financial systems.
