China blocked Ethereum blockchain browser

China blocked Ethereum blockchain browser

The Chinese government uses the “great firewall of China” to regulate citizens' access tovarious foreign websites. Recently, one of the main sources of information about the blockchain in Ethereum (ETH) was blocked in the country.

Etherscan.io, one of the most frequently used sites about Ethereum blockchain activity, is no longer available in China. The blocking took place recently, as of August 18, the Greatfire.org portal, which monitors sites blocked in China, marked etherscan.io as available. Now, users in China can access it only through a virtual private network (VPN).

Etherscan.io is not the first resource to fall victim to the Chinese firewall, which is spinning the flywheel of Internet censorship. Facebook, Reddit, Google and Twitter are also blocked in China.

Etherscan CEO and founder Matthew Tan said he does not know the reasons or exact date for the block.

Recall that a financial regulator in China recently published a letter urging regional authorities to curb illegal activities related to blockchain and cryptocurrency.
