Chainalysis: 1 million BTC belongs to thieves, scammers and drug dealers

According to Chainalysis, more than a million BTC belong to criminals, of which half a million are stored ondarknet sites.

Illicit markets now hold 585,000 BTC,scammers hold 99,000 BTC. Another 205,000 were stolen from their rightful owners and are now in the hands of intruders, another 3,000 were obtained in the course of other illegal activities. According to Chainalysis, about 0.32% of all bitcoins in circulation were used for illegal purposes.

Regardless of the origin, the main destination for these bitcoins is usually exchanges and bitcoin mixers.

Scammers and thieves hold about 300,000 BTC. Over the past few years, no exchanges have started taking KYC / AML procedures more seriously. These security measures make it more difficult for criminals to launder illicit money.
