Cboe to launch cryptocurrency indices in second quarter of 2021

Cboe Global Markets plans to launch indices based on leading cryptocurrenciesin the first half of next year.

To do this, the owner of the Chicago Options Exchange entered into a licensing agreement with data provider CoinRoutes.Initially, Cboe will focus only on tracking the dynamics of cryptocurrency rate changeswith a high market capitalization against the US dollar.

The process of introducing new information tools will take place in three stages. First, historical data on underlying asset prices will be collectedfor the first quarter of 2021.Next, Cboe will begin informing clients about fluctuations in cryptocurrency rates in real time. Only after this the company’s global index group will be supplemented with new instruments.

According to Cboe's head of information solutions, Katherine Clay, the actual launch of crypto-indexes should take place in the second quarter of 2021.

Although the Chicago Options Exchange suspended bitcoin futures trading in March 2019, management says the company has not lost interest in digital assets.
