Catalonia's Minister of Digital Technologies and Politics, Jordi Puignero, Believes Blockchain Will Helpthe region gain political independence from the Spanish government.
According to Puinero, using technologyDistributed Registry (DLT) Catalonia can create a system for ordinary citizens to interact with local authorities, conduct financial transactions, and create a separate data warehouse that will not be accessible to the central government of Spain.
Puinero stands for widespread adoptiontechnologies in the territory of Catalonia, because I am convinced that such a blockchain-based system will provide a high level of protection for citizens' confidential data and will support the personal interests of Catalans, who do not always agree with the ideas and actions of the Spanish authorities.
“Blockchain can make fundamental changes toadministrative management, the financial system and society, namely, will help the Catalans to gain even greater freedom and independence. We do not want the residents of our region to feel under the hood of Big Brother. Therefore, we will look for opportunities for the real use of the blockchain, ”said Puinero.
Catalonia is not the first to announce plans forusing DLT. Earlier, the authorities of the region did not even rule out the issue of their own token, and in 2018 local authorities considered the possibility of using an electronic voting system based on the blockchain.
