Boeing has been awarded a $ 30 million contract to develop a new missile defense system, and is also involved in the development of a 250 kW liquid laser.

The aerospace giant, which is a U.S. defense contractor, has announced its involvement in several advanced weapons projects. In an official press release, Boeing announced the conclusion of a major contract with the US Navy for the development of a prototype of an advanced solid-propellant ramjet engine with supersonic thrust support formissile defense systems.

New missiles will increase the efficiency of naval andground combat systems, as well as strike fighters when protecting aircraft carriers from enemy supersonic weapons. According to the contract, the company must present a demonstration version of the ramjet engine by the end of 2022.

Apart from this, another American defensecontractor General Atomics said it is partnering with Boeing on a project to create next-generation high-energy weapons for the US Army. The companies are working together on a liquid laser system with an output power of 250 kW. The modular design will allow for gain spreading and combining of pulse trains to generate a continuous beam, increasing efficiency and flexibility when attacking targets.

General Atomics is responsible for developmentintegrated thermal management equipment; and a high-power, high-density lithium-ion battery capable of storing 3 MJ of energy; and a laser. Boeing will supply a beam guiding device and software for accurate detection and guidance.

While the US Army is funding supersonic missile defense systems, China is already testing new hypersonic engines to bypass them.
