Banks have estimated the introduction of the digital ruble at tens of billions of rubles

Participants in the Russian financial market have preliminary estimated the costs of introducing the digital ruble atthe platform of the Association of Russian Banks, Kommersant reports.

According to Sberbank, only securityusing the digital ruble will cost 25 billion rubles. According to a representative of a bank from the top 20, the costs for the entire banking system for the introduction of the digital ruble can amount to tens of billions of rubles.

Chairman of the Association of Russian Banks VictorDostov noted that before deciding on the implementation of the digital ruble, one needs to understand what tasks he will solve, how to finance the project and who will bear the costs.

Adapting the payment infrastructure will requireupgrade software and technical equipment, says a representative of one large bank. Other participants in the discussion noted that the speed of implementation will depend on whether banks see a return on upcoming investments.

The Bank of Russia announced plans to create a digital ruble in October last year.
