Australian authorities confiscated $ 1 million in cryptocurrency from drug dealers

During an operation to expose drug traffickers, Western Australian police confiscated cryptocurrency inthe amount of 1.5 million Australian dollars (~ $ 1 million).

So, the police detained a 27-year-old man andA 25-year-old woman importing from the UK pills of a methylenedioxymethamphetamine drug (ecstasy) that were hidden in a children's drawing set.

As part of the investigation, authorities also managed to seize an electronic wallet, which stored cryptocurrency in the amount of 1524 102 Australian dollars.

Detective Paul Matthews said:

The identification and seizure of more than $1.5 million in cryptocurrency underscores the fact that the current digital environment requires law enforcement intervention.

Both a man and a woman received charges for attempting to possess drugs with intent to sell or supply them.

Using the latest technologies and digital methodsforensics, we thoroughly investigate all possible methods of storing financial assets and target all forms of wealth that can be obtained from the illegal drug trade, – Matthews said.
