Apple Demands Ransom in XMR for Stolen Blueprints

The notorious Russian gang REvil is demanding a ransom in Monero from Apple.Otherwise, the hackers will publish the blueprints andschemes of the developed products of the corporation.

The REvil group, known for its Sodinokibi ransomware, claims to have hacked and encrypted the servers of Taiwanese company Quanta Computer, which manufacturesand assembles equipment for Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and many other technology companies. 

In confirmation of its intentions, REvil has begun publishing some of the stolen blueprints, including a new design for the MacBook just unveiled at the company's presentation. 

Using pressure tactics on Quanta and Apple, the attackers are demanding 123,028 Monero coins (£ 37 million, $ 50 million) from them.

Whether the attackers obtained documents from other Quanta clients is still unknown. In addition to Apple, the Taiwanese firm manufactures devices on behalf of HP, Facebook and Google.

Quanta said it had contacted local law enforcement.
