The notorious Russian gang REvil is demanding a ransom from Apple in Monero. Otherwise, the hackers will publish the blueprints and schemes of the developed products of the corporation.
The REvil group, known for theirThe ransomware Sodinokibi claims to have hacked and encrypted the servers of the Taiwanese company Quanta Computer, which manufactures and assembles hardware for Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo and many other technology companies.
In support of their intentions, REvil has begun publishing some of the stolen blueprints, including a new design for the MacBook just unveiled at the corporation's presentation.
Using pressure tactics on Quanta and Apple, the attackers are demanding 123,028 Monero coins (£ 37 million, $ 50 million) from them.
Whether the attackers obtained documents from other Quanta clients is still unknown. In addition to Apple, the Taiwanese firm manufactures devices on behalf of HP, Facebook and Google.
Quanta representatives said they contacted local law enforcement agencies.
