Antminer E3 lost the ability to mine ETC, on the ETH queue

The Antminer E3 ASIC miner from the Chinese manufacturer Bitmain is no longer capable of mining ETC.In April, on these devicesETH mining may stop.

Antminer E3 was introduced in April 2018,Becoming the first and only massive ASIC miner working on the Ethash algorithm. Despite developers claiming that the hash rate of the Ethereum Classic network with Antminer E3 is 180 Mh / s, some users have reported a decrease in the hash rate to 30 Mh / s and a sudden cessation of ETC mining. According to Bitmain employees, Antminer E3 could only get ETC until January 2020, however, users began to complain about mining problems when using this device only in mid-February.

Perhaps the problem is thatminers have to download a voluminous DAG file before mining. The size of this file increases with each new era of the Ethlash algorithm through 30,000 blocks. As a result, due to memory limitations, Antminer E3 can no longer mine ETC. Today, Ethereum Classic is ahead of Ethereum by 10 eras. This means that after approximately 45 days, Antminer E3 will be unable to mine and ETH. Miners will have to switch to other coins on Ethash, but their profitability after the influx of new capacities will drop significantly.

Recall that in January Bitmain refused servicesCanadian company DMG Blockchain, which manages a mining center in Texas, because the company was unable to "determine the cost and effectiveness of management."
