160,000 Moscow surveillance cameras will be equipped with face recognition technology

The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that all video surveillance cameras in Moscow will be connected to a common facial recognition system. More than 160,000 video cameras will be equipped with FindFace Security technology.

Today there are approximately 3,000 video camerasface recognition in Moscow using FindFace neural network technology developed by the Russian company NTechLab. Company executives began collaborating with Moscow authorities in 2018 after successfully testing FindFace at the FIFA World Cup.

During the month of the championship, the technology successfully recognized more than 180violators. In June, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that 90 wanted criminals were detained thanks to new technology connected to one thousand video cameras at the entrances of residential buildings.

The facial recognition system works according to the methodhandwritten neural network. Interference such as glasses, long bangs, a mask on the face or a highly distorted image are not a problem for FindFace – this has been proven by many tests. To search for a person, publicly available information from social networks or any other sources available to the Ministry of Internal Affairs is used.

A face recognition system is necessary not only to search for criminals, but also to combat fraud. In China, face scanning will become mandatory for connecting to mobile communications.
