Former head of BitMEX crypto exchange surrendered to US authorities

Crypto exchange founder Arthur Hayes surrendered to US authorities in Hawaii to fight allegations of violationsanti-money laundering and customer identification rules; and bank secrecy laws.

Co-founder and ex-CEO of cryptocurrencyBitMEX exchange Arthur Hayes surrendered to the US authorities in Hawaii, Bloomberg reports. According to the agency, the entrepreneur appeared in court in Honolulu, and then was released from custody on $ 10 million bail.

Arthur Hayes's lawyers claim that theirthe client was wrongly accused of violating the law. According to them, he voluntarily appeared in court to challenge these "unfounded charges."

Last October, the Trade CommissionCommodity Futures Trading (CFTC) accused Hayes and two other BitMEX co-founders, Ben Delo and Samuel Reid, of maintaining an unregistered trading platform, violating customer identification and anti-money laundering regulations, and bank secrecy laws.
