Media: Telegram will raise $ 1 billion through bond placement

Telegram Group plans to raise $1 billion through the sale of bonds to a limited number of investors.

AlongAccording to Kommersant sources, Russian investors have already received the first offers from Durov's team.

The company focuses on buyers from Russia,Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The entry threshold will be $50 million. The securities will be issued for five years with an annual repayment of 7–8% of the investment amount. When the company enters an IPO, the bonds will be converted into shares with a 10% discount to the offering price. 

The company has not yet made an official statement about the upcoming bond issue. 

Many believe that the messenger needs additional funds to pay off TON debts. 

In the first month of 2021, Telegram became the mostthe most downloaded non-gaming application in the world, with an audience of over 500 million users. However, it is still not profitable for a company to go public without stable monetization. According to Durov, the messenger plans to start monetizing this year through an advertising platform for channels.
