Altona Test Network Launches for Ethereum 2.0 June 29

The developers of Ethereum 2.0 have agreed to postpone the launch of the test network version 0.12 to Monday so that everyoneengineers were on site at the time the primary unit was launched.

Running the Ethereum 2 test network.0, Altona, scheduled for June 29. As Eth 2.0 developers said during a video call on June 25, the new testnet is “mostly ready to go” and the delay is only due to the need to ensure that all developers will be on site at launch.

Developer Afri Shedon, who coordinated all previous test networks, announced that the minimum threshold for the number of deposits to launch Altona has been reached.

According to him, uneven depositshas already led to the “technical formation of the network.” However, the developers agreed to delay the launch to move it away from the weekend, when there are far fewer staff on site ready to fix any potential problems.

The developers then agreed to set a specific launch time on Monday. It was previously reported that the network could be launched in July.

Final Release Coming

Altona will be on the test network for the first timeuse updated version 0.12 for Ethereum 2.0. The developers plan to use it as the basis for the first Eth 2.0 test network with a long working life, which will be available to a wide range of users.

The developers call Altona an “improvednetwork”, since it is primarily designed to eliminate serious failures. Previous networks often had problems with synchronization, which led to parallel processes on the network.

But the team hopes that the new version willbe stable enough to eventually launch a real public testnet, similar to the Goerli and Rinkeby networks on Ethereum 1.0.

The development of testnet 0.12 is progressing according to plan, according to which the launch is scheduled for June.

At the moment there is zero information about the launchthere is no phase that involves the introduction of a protocol with proof of ownership in the Ethereum network. However, the Altona testnet will likely be an important milestone towards this goal.
