ECB registers the digital euro trademark

The European Central Bank has applied for the registration of the digital euro trademark, Bloomberg reported.

According to the publication, ECB lawyers from the German firm Bock Legal filed an application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on September 22. It has not been approved yet.

This step indicates that the regulator is stilllooks positively on the outlook for central bank digital currencies (CBDC). However, the ECB has not yet made a final decision on the issue of the digital euro. At present, a report is being prepared for publication, the reaction to which will determine the further vector of work in this direction. Earlier, ECB President Christine Lagarde said:

“The Eurosystem has not yet made a decision to introducedigital euro, but like many other central banks in the world, we are studying the benefits, risks and operational challenges of this process. It is expected that the results of the working group will be presented to the public in the coming weeks, after which a public discussion will begin. "

Lagarde later clarified that the digital euro should be a complement to the existing fiat currency, not a replacement.
