Donald Trump bans TikTok in the US

US President Donald Trump has announced that he is banning the Chinese TikTok app in the US.

RepresentativesSecurity officials previously stated that the app, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, is being used to collect personal data from Americans.

TikTok denies all allegations that the company is controlled by or shares data with the Chinese government.

TikTok has a US user base of 80 million monthly active users, and a ban in America could be a major blow to the company.

Donald Trump said on Saturday:

For TikTok, we ban it in the United States.

At the moment, it is not known whether the US President signed a decree that would ban the application from working in the country.

As a reminder, on June 30, India also announced its ban on TikTok and another 58 Chinese apps. TikTok is currently pulled from the App Store and Play Store in India.
