The long-awaited transition to Ethereum 2.0 may take place very soon.
Danny Ryan, one of the main developers atThe Ethereum Foundation today officially submitted a proposal on GitHub to transition the Ethereum blockchain from the proof-of-work (PoW) algorithm to the proof-of-stake (POS) algorithm.
After the approval of this proposal, the zero phase of Serenity will be launched, during which the transition to PoS will take place. This is expected to happen this year or early next year.
The Ethereum 2.0 update should address network scalability issues through the concept of sharding.
Zero phase (Serenity Phase 0) – This is the first stage in the complex multi-phase launch of Ethereum 2.0. The next phase is expected to launch in 2021.
As a reminder, the popular web service MyEtherWallet (MEW) has released a new Ethereum blockchain explorer called EthVM.
